Separated Families & Family Law

How can we help?
Psychologists are equipped with various tools and strategies to help children and families manage the changes that family separation brings about.

We can provide therapeutic and emotional support for children, as well as sessions on effective co-parenting, individual adult therapy, and effective family therapy in what is often a stressful environment.

Tailored Therapy and Individual Plans

We recognise that every family’s situation is different. Our process starts with a detailed assessment of your child’s needs, which informs an individualised plan of support. This plan may involve individual therapy for your child, sessions focused on parent guidance, or therapy that includes the whole family. By tailoring our approach to your child’s unique challenges and using evidence-based methods, we aim to promote meaningful progress and positive outcomes.

If you are currently navigating Family Court proceedings, contact our Geelong clinic to see how we may be of assistance.

Counselling

Counselling sessions can play a crucial role in supporting families and individuals as they navigate legal proceedings and the process of separation.

A Court may direct a family to engage the services of a psychologist during legal proceedings. This process may be confidential, OR the Court may ask that the therapy is reportable and request the psychologist to provide an opinion and make recommendations.

Co-Parenting After Separation

Counselling sessions can help parents improve their communication, work through daily practical issues that arise in separated households, reduce the likelihood of future litigation, and decrease overall conflict.

Parent Support & Coaching

We provide support for a wide range of developmental, behavioural, and child mental health challenges. By addressing both child mental health and behaviour, we aim to strengthen family relationships and empower you as a parents

Emotional Support for Children

Issues such as low self-esteem, sadness, or difficulty expressing emotions can arise during separation and legal proceedings. Therapy can provide a safe space for children to explore their feelings, learn to express themselves constructively, and enhance their emotional well-being.

Family Dynamics

Changes within the family, such as divorce or relocation, can impact a child’s emotional state. Family therapy can support children and their families in navigating these transitions.
